The Zimmerman trial is a case about the murder of Trayvon Martin. George Zimmerman, one night saw Trayvon Martin in a dark alleyway doing some suspicious activities. Somehow, the two argued and then they got into a fight. During this fight, Zimmerman was forced to (or claims that he was fored to) use his gun and kill Martin.
For this trial, it is suspected that both men, Martin and Zimmerman were on some sort of drug. Martin was believed to have taken Marijuana while Zimmerman was believed to have taken medications Librax and Temazepam. Librax and Tempazepam are two medications that helps the patient taking it to relax. We can tell that since Zimmerman originally needed these medications, his reaction of killing Martin could be due to a sudden eccentric action or simply a necessary result. However, the judge of this case allowed Zimmerman's attorney to use Martin's drug abuse of Marijuana as evidence. Ironically, Martin's attorney it is unknown whether Zimmerman's drugs use may be admissible during the trials.
By knowing what the requirements are for a person to handle and use a gun, I believe this whole accident may easily have been avoided if Zimmerman was just dismissed for the night. Zimmerman's inability to sleep and constant anxiety were two very good signals of why he should have not been on duty, much less carrying a weapon. When a person lacks sleep, his brain will not function as properly as a person who gets a good night's sleep. Similarly, when a person has anxiety issues, he will more likely be unable to react sensibly in certain situations.
Wow, Trayvon Martin was murdered a year and a half ago, and the Zimmerman case is STILL a big issue right now. I totally agree with you that the whole incident could have easily been avoided. Because I did not keep too much track of the Zimmerman case, I did not know that drugs may have played a role in the incident. Whatever is the exact cause of the incident, it proves that people should simply act more responsibly. It is not a hard thing to do, and it will make things much less complicated.
ReplyDeleteSo wait, did Zimmerman take his medications on the night of this happening? If so, then most likely he should not have any type of problem going on when Martin was present at the scene since he’s so relax. And I agree with what you said about how he shouldn't have been on duty because of his problems. But shouldn't the committee know about his issue? Then maybe they shouldn't have put him on duty.

ReplyDeleteI'm on the same page as Nathan is, I can't believe this case is still unresolved. I do believe the incident could be avoided, but I'm not sure it was the drugs that both were taking that might have caused Martin's death. I know the gun laws are a bit different in Florida, but it still pains me to know that Martin died as a result of a fight.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, Martin was said to have had THC in his blood which impairs hand/eye coordination and decreases short term memory. These aspects MAY have led to the fight which escalated to Martin's death. However, I feel as if Zimmerman may have been too drastic with his choice to end the fight. In my opinion, I feel as though he might have been able to end the fight a different way. For instance, I wish that Zimmerman would have just knocked Martin unconscious (or used a taser?) instead of killing him.
Anyways, I agree that Zimmerman may have been in a bad state to make decisions. So overall, good commentary on the article! (Sorry for writing so much, but this was an interesting but sad article. Too bad you already wrote about it so I can't do it anymore...)
This issue has been debated for a while now, and like everyone else who commented, I agree that it is not solved yet. They are still debating it and brining up arguements several months after the incident occured. This shows the effects that drugs can have on people, and proves that medications should only be taken under the supervision of a physician.
ReplyDeleteI can see as why this case has been unresolved. There hasn't been much evidence on anything about this case besides the fact that there has been THC in Martin's blood and that Zimmerman was on medication. Since the case occurred such a long time ago, I find it difficult to acquire accurate information. Although Zimmerman might have been on medication, there is little proof as to how it really affected him that night. In any event, he still committed a crime: murderer. Even though it is the type of sentence that may vary, I do hope that there will be some consequences for his actions.
